Elite Pest Control

Bed Bug Special

To kick off our Pest of the Month feature we’re going to talk about well-known and very annoying pests, Bed Bugs. Bed bugs are parasitic and found throughout the globe. Despite a steep decline in their population, between early 1940s and mid 1990s, developed countries are seeing more incidents of bed bugs, with these bugs being resistant to old forms of control. There are a variety of bed bugs but those that humans are likely to encounter are Cimex lectularius and C. hemipterus. These species of bed bugs are tiny, brown, prefer to feed on human blood, and live in warm areas of a dwelling. They are found primarily living in cracks and crevices of beds, couches, and sofas but are not exclusive to these locations. Found literally anywhere humans are present by detecting carbon dioxide in the human body, they are usually active at night and feed without being noticed hence the saying “Sleep Tight Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite”! One of the first signs of infestation are red bumpy rashes that appear on your skin. Bed bugs are resistant to home remedies. Professional help is required to remove them.
